QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Your questions, clearly answered.

Phone accessories, Faraday storage, clothing, home shielding, product claims and measurement—find answers by topic.

Phone accessories

Is a shielding phone case the same as a Faraday pouch?

No. Compare the intended use: a case used while connected and a closed pouch intended for signal isolation serve different purposes. Ask what the exact finished product was tested to do, and in which configuration.

Read the phone accessory guide →
What should I check before buying a phone protector?

Check your phone model, fit, charging access, coverage and whether the report tests the complete case. Ask how normal connectivity is affected. A percentage in an advertisement is not enough to establish the result for your own use.

Faraday storage

How do I compare Faraday boxes and bags?

Compare internal dimensions, closure instructions, documented frequencies, finished-enclosure testing and durability. Start with the device and purpose you have in mind rather than treating every enclosure as interchangeable.

Does one failed phone call prove a bag blocks every signal?

No. Record which connection was checked and how the enclosure was closed. A single check does not establish performance for all wireless services or frequencies. Follow the manufacturer’s verification procedure and request test documentation.

Shielding clothing

Does a fabric test tell me how a whole garment performs?

Do not assume it does. Identify the actual test object and conditions. Ask for information about the finished garment, coverage, fit and whether the claims apply after washing and everyday use.

Read the clothing guide →
What details should a shielding clothing listing include?

Material composition, sizing, coverage, care instructions, the exact performance claim and its supporting report. A claimed health outcome needs its own relevant evidence; do not infer it from a material specification.

Home shielding

How should I choose between curtains, canopies, films and paints?

Define the project first: location, intended purpose, surfaces involved and practical constraints. Ask for installation requirements, full costs and a way to check the completed installation. Compare options for the same job.

Read the home shielding guide →
Does a material report certify my completed room?

No. Ask what the report actually tests and how the completed installation will be checked. Save the installation details and limitations alongside any measurements. Use a qualified professional for electrical work.

Computer accessories

What should I ask about a laptop shield or desk mat?

Ask which field type and operating conditions the product addresses, whether the report covers the complete setup, and whether placement follows the computer manufacturer’s ventilation instructions. Compare dimensions and usability as well as the claimed performance.

Other marketed products

How do you assess neutralizers, harmonizers or Blushield products?

We start with the exact product and advertised claim, then ask whether the evidence directly supports that claim. Category inclusion is not endorsement. We have not completed a product-specific assessment of a Blushield model, and do not assign it a protection rating.

Buying & comparisons

Can I compare clothing, meters and Faraday boxes on one score?

These products have different purposes and specifications. Compare products within the same category using relevant criteria, such as instrument capabilities, garment fit or enclosure capacity. We do not combine unrelated features into a protection score.

Explore comparisons by category →
Why do some categories have no individual products yet?

The broader categories currently offer buying criteria. Three meter profiles are available; other product listings and provider offers are being prepared. We label this clearly rather than present unfinished listings as tested recommendations.

Basics

Can a website calculate the radiation in my room?

Not reliably from a device list and room dimensions alone. Source power, frequency, antenna behaviour, activity, distance and the surroundings all matter. Our room explorer shows device positions, distances and optional entered meter readings, not an exposure prediction.

Measurement

Can a phone app replace an RF meter?

A phone’s magnetic sensor is not a calibrated broadband RF instrument. An app showing a magnetic value does not establish Wi-Fi or mobile-signal power density. Check what sensor is actually used and its limitations.

Understand meter capabilities →
Does a zero reading mean there is no EMF?

No. A signal may be outside the meter’s frequency range, below its detection floor, or missed by the selected mode or orientation. Record instrument limitations alongside readings.

Read the measurement guide →

Evidence

Does blocking a signal prove a health benefit?

No. Attenuation is a physical measurement under particular conditions. A health-benefit claim requires evidence addressing that specific benefit and product.

Evaluate shielding claims →
Is a meter reading a diagnosis?

No. Consumer field readings cannot diagnose symptoms or establish their cause. Discuss persistent symptoms with an appropriate healthcare professional.

Products

Are these products independently tested by EMF Practical?

No. The current directory compares manufacturer-documented specifications. We identify this clearly and do not assign invented testing scores.

Do affiliate commissions influence comparisons?

Our policy is to separate commercial relationships from selection criteria. Current product links have no affiliate tracking. Any future paid relationships should be disclosed beside the relevant content.

Practical setup

Does Ethernet automatically switch off Wi-Fi?

Not necessarily. Check the device’s network settings. Disabling Wi-Fi may affect other devices or services, so verify your setup before making changes.
