Start with the field type
For wireless signals, look for RF capability. For low-frequency magnetic fields, look for an appropriate magnetic-field mode. Electric-field measurements need their own suitable sensor. A multi-field meter is convenient, but the performance of each mode still needs to be evaluated separately.
Frequency coverage is only the start
The advertised detection range and the range over which accuracy is specified may differ. Check the frequency-response curve when available. Consider the measurement floor, maximum range, sensing axes, response time, and whether the display shows peak or average values. Do not compare isolated accuracy percentages quoted under different conditions.
Decide how you will record results
A clear display may be enough for occasional notes. Repeated surveys may benefit from logging or export capabilities. Check whether a logging feature captures the field and mode you actually need. Confirm the hardware revision, supplied manual, calibration options, warranty, and return terms before buying.
Compare specifications honestly
Our starter comparison lists manufacturer-documented capabilities. We have not performed hands-on tests of these instruments. Inclusion is not an endorsement or a guarantee of suitability. A specification comparison can narrow a shortlist; it cannot replace a test of performance in the intended application.
