Phone shielding cases and pouches: questions before buying

Separate connected use, signal isolation and health claims.

EMF Practical editorial desk · Published 21 September 2026 · Educational guide

Define what you want the accessory to do

A case used during a call and a closed storage pouch have different intended uses. Write down whether you need physical protection, device storage or documented signal attenuation. Do not treat those functions as interchangeable.

Ask about the complete setup

Request documentation for the exact case and phone configuration. Ask which surfaces are covered, how the phone was positioned, and whether the result applies with the case open or closed. Check compatibility, charging access and return terms.

Consider the connection

The FTC warns that partial phone shields can be ineffective and that interference with a signal may cause a phone to increase its power. A marketing demonstration is not enough to establish a reduction in the user’s exposure.

Keep your buying notes

Record the model, intended use, report link and unanswered questions. Compare those details across providers rather than choosing on a single percentage headline. Browse phone accessories criteria.
